The editors of EDN Magazine recently culled through hundreds of new
products introduced in 2006 in their quest to identify the hottest
new products. When it came to analog ICs, Cirrus Logics
(Nasdaq:CRUS) CS3003 operational amplifier stood out amongst the
competition, earning it a place in the magazines list of Hot 100
product for 2006. Cirrus Logics CS3003 single-channel operational
amplifier was one of five products within the analog IC category to
be named to the Hot 100 list. The CS3003, which targets industrial
measurement applications such as temperature/safety monitoring and
industrial process controllers, is noteworthy for its dramatically
higher measurement accuracy compared to competing op amp solutions.
Were thrilled that the CS3003 was selected to EDN Magazines Hot
100 listing, said John Paulos, vice president and general manager,
Cirrus Logics Industrial Products Division. Often within the
signal path of many industrial and scientific instrument
applications the operational amplifier is what limits the overall
performance of the circuit. The CS3003 offers a superior
combination of high gain and low errors that yields exceptional
accuracy, making it a uniquely effective problem solver in
applications performing the highest-precision measurements. EDN
editors cover an amazingly broad technology base and see compelling
products across the spectrum throughout the year, states Editor in
Chief Maury Wright. The Hot 100 highlights the best of the
products from our feature and new-product articles and web coverage
over the course of the year. From components to processors to test
instruments, each of these 100 stands out in the crowd. The CS3003
offers superior accuracy in high-resolution measurement
applications, noted by its exceptionally low 13 nanoVolt
-per-root-Hertz noise performance and open-loop gain of 140 dB.
Other members of the family offer noise as low as 6
nanoVolt-per-root-Hertz, and gain as high as 200 dB. Operating from
a single or bipolar power supply of 2.7 V to 5 V (plus/minus +/
1.35V to plus/minus 2.5V), power consumption is an impressive 1000
microamperes per amplifier. In addition to the popular
small-outline eight-pin SOIC package, the CS3003 is available in a
new leadless 4 x 4 mm leadless QFN package. The CS3003 is part of a
larger family of products, which includes the single-channel CS3004
and the dual-channel CS3013/14. The CS3013/14 feature low power
consumption, which is an important feature for new generations of
battery-powered portable instruments and personal monitoring
applications such as gas safety detectors. A full list of all the
