CDW Government, Inc. (CDW-G), a wholly owned subsidiary of CDW Corporation (NASDAQ:CDWC) and leading source of information technology (IT) solutions to governments and educators, today announced its partnership with one of Pennsylvania's leading cyber charter schools, the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School (PA Cyber), on its first laptop learning initiative. The program will provide PA Cyber's 3,000 students in grades six through twelve with laptops, printers and software. The laptops are a natural pairing for the school's non-traditional approach to learning, enabling its students to learn "anytime, anyplace, and at any pace." "Computers are part of everyday life, and they should be part of everyday education. They facilitate learning and provide our students across the state of Pennsylvania with increased access to our Internet-based curriculum and certified teachers," said Dr. Nick Trombetta, chief executive officer of PA Cyber and president of the National Network of Digital Schools, a management foundation for online schools. "Sooner or later, every school will need to offer online education components. We need to think outside the boundaries of the school building and the clock. Cyber learning offers different options for instructional delivery that meet students' individual learning styles and needs." The laptop initiative demonstrates PA Cyber's established commitment to providing the necessary resources that each student needs in order to reach his or her full potential. "When our students graduate, they are positioned for success and have an edge in our technology-focused world." Trombetta continued. "With students spread around the state, PA Cyber's challenge was to create a technology program that was turnkey and cost-effective," said David Hutchins, CDW-G director, K-12. "Working with CDW-G, PA Cyber took advantage of our custom configuration center so that every laptop arrives at the students' homes preconfigured with all the necessary software." In addition, CDW-G's distribution centers are able to bundle the student technology package - hardware, software and accessories - together in one shipment to ensure that each of the school's 3,000 students receive everything ready to use "out of the box" shortly before school starts in September. "Students will take their laptops from the box to the Internet in minutes," Hutchins noted. PA Cyber students will use HP NX6325 laptops loaded with Microsoft Office and Bluetooth wireless technology, facilitating a go-anywhere environment that is a perfect complement to the school's unique curriculum that is delivered entirely online. The laptops also come with an AMD Turion processor, state of the art audio and video tools, and technical support from CDW-G and HP. PA Cyber utilizes the National Network of Digital Schools Virtual Classroom to deliver instruction to students across the nation in a synchronous environment by connecting highly qualified teachers to students. Teachers cover most all content areas in grades 3-12, often using the Lincoln Interactive curriculum, endorsed by University of Pittsburgh's Tri-State Area School study Council and designed specifically for online learning, to engage students in a robust and fully interactive learning environment.
