November 21, 2018 -- ADVFN Crypto NewsWire -- In July IBM and Columbia announced a partnership to create a research center at the Manhattan campus of Columbia University in New York City. The focus was to develop a space to incubate blockchain applications with both academic and technical expertise in mind.

The center has pressed the value of regulatory issues for startups in the blockchain space. They have established new internship opportunities to improve technical skills for students and professionals that can benefit from understanding the technology. Columbia University expects a significant increase in scholarship applications with this new partnership and energy placed into the burgeoning field.

Two New Accelerators

They are now following through on their goal to begin a reviewal process for "curriculum development, business initiatives and research programs.” The dedicated committee of of both Columbia faculty members and IBM research scientists at the Columbia-IBM Center for Blockchain and Data Transparency is ready to take on projects. The space will offer entrepreneurs and blockchain network creators around the world access to the expertise and resources they need to make a successful business.

Each Accelerator will each support ten startups Participants will explore best practices for building a blockchain network with technical, academic and business mentors from IBM and Columbia with a strong importance placed on regulatory compliance. They will have access to the Columbia research community and student talent pools, business value design assistance and access to IBM Cloud technology.

 

IBM Late-Stage Focus

The IBM Blockchain Accelerator is tailored for later-stage growth companies. They will build out enterprise business networks and client bases for their participants. The projects will last roughly eight weeks with experiences in both New York and San Francisco.
