Eni SpA said Thursday that it has signed an agreement to acquire three photovoltaic projects in Spain with a total capacity of 140 megawatts, from renewable-energy developer X-Elio Energy SL.

The Italian oil-and-gas major said it will be responsible for constructing the plants and commercializing the electricity. The transfer of the projects, located in southern Spain, is subject to customary authorization starting from the second half of the current year.

Eni also said it is in talks for a larger strategic collaboration with X-Elio to grow its renewable projects in Spain by up to 1 gigawatt in the next five years.

The company didn't disclose financial details of the transaction.
