PR Newswire (US)
FERNDALE, Wash., April 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- International
Absorbents Inc. (AMEX:IAX), a leading developer and producer of
environmentally-friendly pet care and industrial products, today
announced that in keeping with its three-phase capital expansion
plan, the Company is in the final stages of relocating its original
Bellingham factory, built in 1986, to the it's modern facility in
Ferndale, Washington. The equipment at the Bellingham plant was
shut down as of Saturday, April 21, 2007. The relocation and
installation of all useable equipment from the old Bellingham plant
to the new Ferndale, facility, as well as the installation of new
equipment, is currently underway. Crews are working around the
clock to complete the task as soon as possible. The new
manufacturing line is expected to be producing product within the
next few weeks and fully operational by the middle of the current
fiscal year. In the interim, a combination of previous inventory
build-up and increased production at the Company's Jesup, GA plant
is expected to meet existing demand. "We are pleased to be nearing
completion of our three-phase capital infrastructure expansion and
look forward to being able to focus our efforts more on market
growth and product improvements," stated Gordon L. Ellis, Chairman
of International Absorbents Inc. "In some respects, it is sad to
see the old plant decommissioned. We produced almost half a billion
bags of animal bedding and industrial absorbents in just 12,000
square feet of manufacturing space. That represents over 11,000
truck loads of beneficial products derived from waste fiber that
would have otherwise been landfilled or incinerated. Our people
were able to achieve great things in the old Bellingham plant, and
we are very optimistic that even greater things will be
accomplished in our new, state-of-the-art facilities in Ferndale
and Jesup." The intent of the Company's capital expansion plan is
first, to protect our core business by improving control over
product quality, reducing production costs and improving
efficiencies in shipping product to our customers; second, to give
us the ability to manufacture, warehouse and distribute a wider
diversity of product; and third, to increase our production
capacity. International Absorbents Inc. develops, manufactures and
markets patented and proprietary, cost effective consumer and
commercial products derived from recycled, renewable materials.
These environmentally safe products outperform conventional
products used in a broad range of consumer and industrial
applications, including retail/commercial pet bedding and litter,
oil and hazardous liquid spill cleanup and control, oil/water
filtration, and packaging. Further information is available at
