outages at U.S. refineries as reported by Dow Jones Newswires. The
information is compiled from both official and unofficial refining
sources and doesn't purport to be a comprehensive list.
Tesoro reported a planned flaring at it's 110,000 barrel-a-day
refinery in Wilmington, Calif, beginning 6 pm pdt Monday through
noon on Tuesday, according to the South Coast Air Quality
Management District. It wasn't known which unit, or units, might be
affected.
A check valve failure occurred on a coker at a 155,000
barrel-a-day refinery owned by Valero Energy Corp in Benicia,
Calif., at 10:15 am pdt Monday, resulting in the release of 518
pounds of sulfur dioxide as reported by the California Hazardous
Materials Spill report. No significan market impact was evident and
the duration is unknown.
Trading sources doing business with Exxon Mobil Corp. indicate
the number one hydrocracker at it's 560,000 barrel-a-day refinery
in Baytown, Tx, was returned to service over the weekend after the
repairing of a heat exchanger over the last two weeks.
CVR Energy Inc. (CVI) reported an "unplanned emergency" at its
115,000-barrel-a-day its refinery in Coffeyville, Kan., that
resulted in flaring on Saturday. A spokesman declined to comment on
whether the incident impacted production.
Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) expects some impact on production at its
344,500-barrel-a-day refinery in Beaumont, Texas, after a July 5
electrical malfunction affected a processing unit, a company
spokesman said, adding that customer commitments should be met.
BP PLC (BP, BP.LN) told Texas regulators July 8 that it is
bringing catalytic reforming unit back to normal operations at its
475,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Texas City, Texas. BP said June 21
that the refinery would return to full capacity by August after an
April power outage left it running at half capacity.
Sunoco Inc. (SUN) said in a filing to regulators that a
compressor on a key gasoline-producing component at its
335,000-barrel-a-day Philadelphia refinery was shut down July 6.
The company declined to specify the duration of the incident, which
occurred at the facility's Point Breeze unit, or say if it affected
production. Sunoco has been restarting the reformer and
hydrotreater at the after starting unplanned maintenance on the
units that began on June 19.
Husky Energy Inc.(HUSKF, HSE.T) said July 7 that it has
restarted its 155,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Lima, Ohio, after
shutting it June 27 to repair a leak in the crude distillation unit
furnace. Running at 80% crude intake, the facility is expected to
reach full capacity in the next few days.
PBF Energy reported its sixth emissions incident in as many days
on July 6 as it works to start its 190,000-barrel-a-day refinery in
Delaware City, Del. In state filings, PBF said the latest incident
involved 181 pounds of sulfur oxide released as it started a
compressor. PBF bought the facility last summer and had planned to
restart during the quarter ended June 30, but it missed that target
and has given no new estimate for production.
Alon USA Energy Inc. (ALJ) reported excess opacity amid
maintenance at its 67,000-barrel-a-day Big Spring refinery in
Texas, according to a Thursday regulatory filing.
ConocoPhillips (COP) said the 362,000-barrel-a-day Wood River
refinery it operates in Roxana, Ill., is still running at reduced
rates following a June 25 thunderstorm that knocked out power
there. ConocoPhillips also reported a failed blind on an isolation
line that resulted in emissions on July 4.
ConocoPhillips told state regulators that the
146,000-barrel-a-day refinery it operates in Borger, Texas, may
have higher-than-normal emissions during planned maintenance on its
Unit 29 electrostatic precipitators between July 6 and July 16.
ExxonMobil said July 5 that production is lower at its
60,000-barrel-a-day refinery in Billings, Mont., because of a
rupture in the Silvertip Pipeline that delivers crude from fields
in Wyoming and Alberta, Canada. The company declined to say how
much output is curtailed or when the refinery could return to
normal rates. Exxon did say it is looking for alternative sources
of crude in the meantime.
North Atlantic Refining Ltd. extended the turnaround at its
refinery in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, by 10 days, delaying
the restarting of its 115,00-barrel-a-day facility to the end of
July, a spokesman said Tuesday.
Motiva reported flaring early Monday due to a shutdown waste gas
compressor at its 233,500-barrel-a-day Norco refinery near St.
Charles, La., in a government filing made public July 5. The effect
on output is unclear.
Tesoro Corp. (TSO) told California regulators to expect
intermittent flaring at its 97,000-barrel-a-day Los Angeles-area
refinery between July 7 and July 11 while unspecified but planned
maintenance is performed.
Exxon reported flaring July 1 at its 238,600 barrel-a-day
refinery in Joliet, Ill., according to a government filing made
public July 2.
BP PLC (BP) said a continuing problem at its
405,000-barrel-a-day refinery in Whiting, Ind., caused emissions
July 1, according to a government filing made public July 2.
Exxon reported a July 30 shutdown of the hydrocracker unit at
its 560,640 barrel-a-day refinery in Baytown, Texas, according to a
filing with state regulators made public July 1.
Chevron Corp. (CVX) said on June 30 it restarted the
crude-distillation unit at its 330,000 barrel-a-day refinery in
Pascagoula, Miss. The unit had been shut down after a fire on May
9.
Valero Energy Corp. (VLO) is performing unplanned maintenance on
the vacuum jet compressor in the eastern part of its 115,000
barrel-a-day refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas, according to a
government filing made public June 30.
Chevron reported a compressor trip on June 29 at its refinery in
Pascagoula, Miss., according to a government filing made public
Thursday.
Alon USA Energy Inc. (ALJ) was restarting the FCC unit on June
28 at its Big Spring refinery in Texas, according to a filing with
state regulators. The 67,000 barrel-a-day refinery, which had been
undergoing maintenance that started on June 17, also experienced a
power outage on June 20.
CVR Energy Inc. (CVI) shut down units at its 115,000
barrel-a-day refinery in Coffeyville, Ka., on June 27, according to
a government filing made public June 28.
ExxonMobil reported a furnace outage on June 24 at its 240,000
barrel-a-day refinery in Joliet, Ill., according to a government
filing. The Joliet refinery had cut production during the previous
week because of a similar problem, according to a government
filing.
