"United Way-Centraide brings communities together to provide hope and resources where the needs are greatest," said Bruce March, chairman, president and CEO of Imperial Oil. "Our remarkable campaign result in 2010 shows our employees and retirees have passion and commitment to the communities in which they live and work. We continue to proudly embrace this spirit." Imperial's 2010 United Way campaign was one of the most successful in company history on a variety of fronts. Funds raised topped the company's record-breaking 2009 campaign. Employees also took part in a variety of successful fundraising events, including bake sales, computer game competitions and talent shows. For every card sold at nearly 600 participating Esso retail sites in Canada, Imperial donated $2 to the United Way. The overall donation also included funds raised through the auctioning of an Arthur Lismer masterpiece, Dark Pool, Canadian Jungle, Georgian Bay, from Imperial Oil's corporate art collection. The oil-on-canvas rendering, signed and dated 1938, was purchased for $118,000, with proceeds from the sale going to the United Way of Calgary and Area.
