Hertz Chief Executive Officer Stephen Scherr and New York City Mayor Eric Adams launched "Hertz Electrifies New York City" during New York City Climate Week celebrations on Wednesday.

The public-private partnership aims to increase electric vehicle adoption and accelerate EV charging infrastructure while extending environmental and social benefits from electrification.

As part of the program, Hertz said it plans to add up to 1,700 EV rentals to local fleets, create 100 new jobs in New York and work with local schools to create EV education and training opportunities, including donating five EVs to allow New York City schools to provide hands-on training to students.

Hertz also said it will work with bp to launch bp pulse fast charging hubs in the city. "These sites will feature ultra-fast chargers of 150kW+ designed to serve Hertz customers, taxi and ride-share drivers, and the public," the company said.

Adams said "as we celebrate Climate Week, we're proud to announce an expansion of our partnership with Hertz. This investment will also make more EVs available to New Yorkers, while preparing our youth for the emerging green economy of the future and helping us fight climate change from behind the wheel."
