Tesco PLC (TSCO.LN) said Tuesday that Charles Wilson will step down as chief executive of Tesco U.K. & Republic of Ireland and from the board due to health reasons, effective July 16.

Mr. Wilson, who has been diagnosed with throat cancer and undergone treatment, will remain on the Tesco executive committee and focus on leading the Booker business, the company said. Booker is a food wholesaler that Tesco recently took over.

The FTSE-100 listed grocer said that Jason Tarry, currently group chief product officer, will become the CEO of Tesco U.K. & Republic of Ireland.

Andrew Yaxley, currently CEO Ireland, will be promoted to group chief product officer and join the executive committee, the company said.

The promotions of Mr. Tarry and Mr. Yaxley will also be effective from July 16, the company said.
