            NOTIFICATION OF MAJOR INTEREST IN ORDINARY SHARES
                                    
                              Ted Baker plc

Ted  Baker plc was notified on 12 October 1998, in accordance with  Part
VI  of the Companies Act 1985, that HSBC Investment Bank plc ("HSBC") at
the  close  of business on 8th October 1998 had an interest in 2,140,000
ordinary shares representing 5.19% of the issued ordinary share  capital
of Ted Baker plc.

Ted  Baker plc was further notified that at the close of business on 9th
October  1998  HSBC  no longer had a notifiable interest  in  Ted  Baker
shares.
