                          TED BAKER plc ("Ted Baker")

                           RETAIL TRADING STATEMENT

Ted Baker, the designer clothing brand, announces today that retail sales in
the period from 1 November to 24 December 1997 were up 30 per cent. on the
same period last year.  Of this, like for like retail sales growth was 11 per
cent.; the balance is accounted for by new space.  Gross margins have been
maintained at the same level as last year.  The Directors are particularly
pleased with the trading results from the recent expansion of several existing
Ted Baker stores.

Ray Kelvin, Chief Executive, said; " Sales over the Christmas period were
strong and have continued on target.  We therefore remain confident of a
successful outcome for the full year."
