Osmetech plc ("the Company") announces that it has placed 10,680,233 new
Ordinary Shares of 1p each at a placing price of 25.5p per share with Merrill
Lynch Investment Managers on behalf of their discretionary clients to raise
approximately #2.72 million gross.  This represents approximately 5% of the
current issued Ordinary Share capital of the Company.  All of the new Ordinary
Shares which have been placed rank pari passu in all respects with the other
issued Ordinary Shares of the Company.  Application has been made to the UK
Listing Authority and the London Stock Exchange for the new Ordinary Shares
being issued to be admitted to listing and it is expected that dealings will
commence on 21 September 2000.
