OFGAS INVESTIGATES EASTERN NATURAL GAS

Ofgas is conducting an investigation into the doorstep selling practices of
Eastern Natural Gas (Retail) Limited following the receipt of information
suggesting a breach of the new standard licence condition setting standards in
relation to marketing. The investigation will focus on sales in a particular
area through one sales agency.

Staff from the Forensic Accounting Department of KPMG and from Simmons &
Simmons, Solicitors, will carry out the investigation for Ofgas, authorised
under the terms of Eastern's gas supply licence and under section 38 of the Gas
Act 1986. Eastern is cooperating fully with the investigation.
