The resurgent City of New York has joined London, Hong Kong, Cape Town, Bristol,
Glasgow, Jersey and Liverpool in adopting a 60ft racing yacht for the Clipper
2002 Round the World Yacht Race. The 35,000 mile, 11-month event starts from
Liverpool's historic Albert Dock on 27th October. It is the second major
commitment made by the City of New York to Clipper Ventures in the space of a
month, having recently invited the company to start its "Around Alone" race from
just off "Ground Zero" to help commemorate the September 11th tragedy.

Speaking on behalf of the City of New York, Commissioner Podziba of the New York
Sports Commission commented: "New York is honoured to have a yacht named after
the city in the Clipper 2002 Round the World Yacht Race. This is a real
opportunity to promote all these famous cities and strengthen the ties between
them. I wish you an exciting race and will look forward to welcoming the crews
to New York City in August 2003."

Commissioner Podziba is referring to the fact that New York will be hosting one
of the Clipper race's 16 stopovers. These high-profile events are also potential
revenue raisers for Clipper Ventures through negotiated port-hosting fees and
the provision of free professional services and general hospitality.

Each of the eight Clipper yachts carries sponsorship opportunities for ten local
companies to commit £25,000 each. In return, the companies enjoy an extensive
package of advertising, hospitality and international networking & media
opportunities.

Clipper Ventures chairman Sir Robin Knox-Johnston comments: "Increasing the
international profile of our events is part of the company's core strategy - New
York being our final city, combined with the entries already received from Hong
Kong and Cape town are key elements of this strategy.

Deputy New York Mayor Daniel L. Doctoroff stated: "We are honoured that the
organisers and competitors of Around Alone are willing to divert to New York for
this one time only to join Sail for America. This is a highly symbolic act of
solidarity with our City, which will capture the hearts of our citizens and the
country. We will ensure that this historic departure from New York is a
remarkable success."
