                          TRADING UPDATE                                

Inspec reports that it has had a satisfactory second half of 1997.  The UK
businesses have reported strong sales volumes which have gone a long way
towards mitigating the negative impact of sterling. In addition, our
continental European businesses have performed well on the back of weaker
European currencies and, in particular, EO/Glycol has had a strong finish to
the year.  Current indications are that the results for 1997 will be well in
line with market expectations and the Company is entering the new year with a
positive outlook. It is intended to announce the 1997 results on 3rd March
1998.
