BT Group intends to reduce its footprint at its Adastral Park site in Suffolk and move part of the roles to other locations over the next two years, a spokesperson said Thursday.

The announcement comes as the U.K. telecommunications group is seeking to consolidate into a smaller number of buildings, while a number of core operations will remain in Adastral Park.

The spokesperson added that BT will offer support including relocation and redeployment options to affected workers wherever possible, and that it is consulting with trade union partners over these proposals.

However, trade union Prospect referred to the proposals as "extremely concerning," saying that they would cut 1,100 jobs at Adastral Park and amount to redundancies.

"Prospect urges BT to be fully transparent about its business case for significantly reducing jobs at Adastral Park and to consider all alternatives to making these highly skilled workers redundant," the trade union said.
