         BellSouth Board of Directors Declares 89th Quarterly Dividend

ATLANTA - The board of directors of BellSouth Corporation (NYSE: BLS) today
declared a regular quarterly dividend of 29 cents per common share. The
fourth-quarter dividend is payable May 1, 2006 to shareholders of record as of
the close of business on April 13, 2006.

BellSouth has approximately 1.8 billion shares outstanding in about 700,000
registered shareholder accounts. This is the 89th consecutive quarterly dividend
declared by BellSouth.
