                  BellSouth Completes Sale of Stake in Cellcom

ATLANTA - September 21, 2005 - BellSouth Corporation (NYSE: BLS) has completed
the previously announced sale of its 34.75 percent equity ownership in Cellcom,
a cellular communications operator in Israel.  The Cellcom stake was purchased
by a subsidiary of Discount Investment Corp, Ltd. (DISI.TA), which previously
held a 25 percent interest in Cellcom, for an aggregate purchase price of $625
million. BellSouth will record an after-tax gain on the transaction of
approximately $230 million or 12 cents per share.
