                  BellSouth Announces Executive Changes

Atlanta, GA -- BellSouth Corporation (NYSE:BLS) today announced several key
executive changes to further position the company as a leader in the rapidly
changing communications marketplace.

Phil Jacobs, president - Georgia Operations has been named president - Planned
Communities Services. Jacobs will lead the development and implementation of a
competitive sales and distribution strategy focused on multi-dwelling units,
such as apartments and condominiums, and large-scale housing developments. He
will report to Mark Feidler, president and chief operating officer of BellSouth.

"Phil's managerial expertise and his sales background will ensure that BellSouth
brings the most competitive and imaginative customer solutions to this extremely
important segment of the marketplace," said Mark Feidler. "His most recent
experience as state president of Georgia operations equips Phil with a clear
understanding of the relationship and community aspects of this important
market."

Jacobs is a 32-year veteran of the company and has been responsible for all
regulatory, legislative, public policy and external affairs for BellSouth's
operations in Georgia since 1998. He was elected as an officer of BellSouth in
1993 when he was appointed president of BellSouth Business Systems. In 1996,
Jacobs was named chief operating officer of Optus Communications, a local
competitive telephone company headquartered in Sydney, Australia of which
BellSouth owned 24.5%.

Ron Frieson, vice president - Transition and Strategy for BellSouth Consumer
Services, has been named president - Georgia Operations replacing Jacobs and
reporting to Margaret Greene, president of Regulatory and External affairs. In
his current role, Frieson has led the customer support strategy and the
development of the systems infrastructure necessary to support BellSouth's
consumer focused operations.

"Ron's varied operational and strategy development experiences are a great fit
with the obligations of the president's position in our second largest state,"
said Greene. "He will ensure that BellSouth continues the transition to a
regulatory climate where the marketplace determines winners and losers."

From February 2001 until his appointment to his current post in November 2002,
Mr. Frieson was vice president & chief diversity officer of BellSouth
Corporation. In this position, he assisted BellSouth's chairman and CEO and the
senior officer team in leading the company's diversity strategies and
initiatives. Frieson joined BellSouth in 1985.

BellSouth also announced that Richard Burns, currently vice president - Centers
and Operations Support, has been named vice president - Network Centers and
Program Management. Burns will continue to be responsible for the deployment and
operations of BellSouth's DSL and Internet services, the provisioning and
reliability centers and BellSouth's supply chain services. In these functions,
Burns will continue to report to Rod Odom, president of Network Services.

In addition, Burns will assume responsibility for overseeing the company's
continued transformation from a traditional wireline communications provider to
a competitive wireless and broadband company. For his new duties, Burns will
report to Mark Feidler.

"Richard will be responsible for ensuring that BellSouth continues to transform
its cost, organizational and operational structures, and the job skills of its
employees," stated Feidler. "This transformation is critical to our ability to
be a successful competitor in tomorrow's wireless and broadband market 
segments."

In previous assignments, Burns was president of Broadband and Internet Services
with responsibility for the deployment, marketing and operations of broadband.
He also held the position of network vice president in the states of Tennessee
and Kentucky and then later in Georgia, and was responsible for all network
operations within those states. He joined BellSouth in 1976.

The announced changes will be effective August 1, 2005.
