BellSouth Board of Directors Declares 85th Quarterly Dividend

ATLANTA - The board of directors of BellSouth Corporation (NYSE: BLS) today
declared a regular quarterly dividend of 27 cents per common share. The
first-quarter dividend is payable May 2, 2005 to shareholders of record as of
the close of business on April 14, 2005.

BellSouth has approximately 1.8 billion shares outstanding in about 700,000
registered shareholder accounts. This is the 85th consecutive quarterly dividend
declared by BellSouth.
