AstraZeneca PLC said Friday that it welcomed a decision by the
Court of First Instance in Brussels to reduce the number of
Covid-19 vaccine doses due to be delivered to the European Union by
September.
The pharmaceutical giant said that the court has ordered that
80.2 million doses of the vaccine be delivered by Sept. 27. The
European Commission had requested 120 million vaccine doses
cumulatively by the end of June, and a total of 300 million doses
by the end of September.
AstraZeneca said it has supplied more than 70 million doses of
the vaccine to the EU and expects to "substantially exceed" the
required amount by the end of June.
"AstraZeneca has fully complied with its agreement with the
European Commission and we will continue to focus on the urgent
task of supplying an effective vaccine," General Counsel Jeffrey
Pott said.
