Carroll Shelby International, Inc., the Carroll Shelby
Foundation, Carroll Shelby Licensing, Inc., and Shelby American,
Inc. hosted a successful 2nd Annual Carroll Shelby Tribute and Car
Show on May 17, 2014 in Gardena, California. The event, held in
celebration of the legendary Carroll Shelby, attracted even more
people and more exclusive cars than the previous year.
“Through the organizations he founded, Carroll Shelby continues
to have a major influence on people today,” said Neil Cummings,
co-CEO of Carroll Shelby International, Inc. and a trustee for the
Carroll Shelby Foundation. “Seeing so many enthusiasts, young and
old, gather in his name demonstrates how much people loved Carroll
and his philosophy. Shelby has evolved beyond the man to become an
iconic representation of quality, grit and American ingenuity.”
The tribute was designed to appeal to the entire family.
Hundreds of high performance Shelby and Ford cars were displayed by
their owners. Guests raved about the Terlingua-style chili near a
wine and beer garden. Fans were treated to panel discussions with
legendary drivers Bob Bondurant and Allen Grant.
The Le Mans-winning 1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe was
displayed, along with the first Shelby Cobra (CSX2000). These two
iconic cars were in good company with 13 other rare original
Cobras, a 1967 Ford GT, six original 1965 GT350s and many other
collector automobiles. Shelby American also sent two of their most
popular vehicles, the terrain-eating Shelby Raptor and the limited
edition FIA 289 Shelby Cobra.
“All the vehicles exemplified the high performance
characteristics that have become synonymous with the Shelby brand,”
said Joe Conway, co-CEO of Shelby International, Inc. and CEO of
Shelby American. “Whether it was a 1960s built Shelby Cobra or a
2014 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake, the public could see the
evolution that continues to make Shelby vehicles unmatched.”
The “Shelby in Books and Movies” panelists, “Go Like Hell”
author A.J. Baime and film producer Lucas Foster, treated fans to
information regarding the planned 2015 spring shoot of the film
adaptation of the book. The film will focus on Ford and Carroll
Shelby’s quest to beat Enzo Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The event was free to the public but all donations went to
support the Carroll Shelby Foundation and the Shelby Automotive
Museum. The display included a sprinkling of cars from the
museum.
Carroll Shelby’s Store flagship location on site was open for
the day. It offered a wide range of exclusive items including die
casts, signs and authentic Shelby apparel such as hats, jackets and
shirts. The store also has a unique selection of rare memorabilia
including legacy items signed by Carroll Shelby and limited edition
prints.
The event was a collaboration of Carroll Shelby International,
Inc., the Carroll Shelby Foundation, Carroll Shelby Licensing, and
Shelby American. Additional information about the current line-up
