Sun News Network, a partnership between TVA Group Inc. and Sun Media Corporation, two subsidiaries of Quebecor Media Inc., is pleased to announce that David Akin and Mercedes Stephenson will co-host a one hour prime time show live out of Ottawa called "Daily Brief".

"We are excited to offer something different than the tired old political shows," said Luc Lavoie, Head of development for Sun News. "By combining David Akin's award-winning political reporting with Mercedes Stephenson's outside the box focus on our military, we have one hour of programming you won't want to miss."

David Akin is a Gemini Award winning reporter and the National Bureau Chief for Sun Media in Ottawa. David Akin is one of Canada's most accomplished multimedia journalists and has worked for some of the biggest names in Canadian news. His eight-year old blog is one of the most-read political blogs in Canada and The Hill Times has named Mr. Akin as one of its "100 Most Influential People in Ottawa".

Mercedes Stephenson is not your typical defence specialist. From interning at the Pentagon to hosting and producing several national public affairs television series and documentaries, she brings a healthy outsider's perspective to the nation's capital. A leading authority on military and strategic studies, Ms. Stephenson's national column for Sun Media has become must-read material.

"This is a tremendously exciting opportunity," said David Akin. "Mercedes and I want to bust through the Ottawa bubble and get at the kind of political news that all Canadians are talking about. We think Canadians are interested in the House of Commons but they're also just as interested in the White House, their city hall, and the provincial legislature."

"For too long network television has treated defence and foreign affairs as a side show. We're going to change that, it's a centre piece for us," said Mercedes Stephenson. "David and I make a great team because we're yin and yang. He'll give you the inside Ottawa goods and I'll ask the outside questions. We're a fair, fun and balanced team. "

With a concentration on news from all parts of Canada and around the world, "Daily Brief" will excite audiences by focusing on the issues that actually matter to everyday working people and their families.

"Daily Brief" will air live weekdays from 6:00pm to 7:00pm EST and repeat for western audiences.
