Gin Guild's first Canadian Member

TORONTO, Oct. 19, 2015 /CNW/ - Corby Spirit and Wine is pleased to announce that its own Trade Marketing Manager – Education, Ryan Powell, has become the first Canadian to join the world renowned Gin Guild. Mr. Powell received his membership on Friday, October 16th at an induction ceremony in London, England.

The Gin Guild was incorporated by the Worshipful Company of Distillers, one of London's traditional livery bodies, incorporated by Royal Charter in 1638. The Guild brings together distillers and industry leaders involved in the production, promotion, distribution and consumption of the spirit to encourage excellence in gin distillation. Today, the organization's members are located in many countries across the globe – now including Canada, following the inauguration of Ryan Powell.

"I am truly thrilled to have been accepted into the Gin Guild, and especially proud to be the first Canadian member of this historic organization," says Ryan Powell, Trade Marketing Manager – Education. "Gin is a category that has such a vibrant history, and I'm honoured to join this prestigious group of industry leaders who are dedicated to promoting this dynamic spirit."

To be eligible for the membership, an applicant must show a positive contribution to the gin industry, be it through management, promotion, development, production, sales, marketing or distribution of gin, or its academic study. In addition to managing Corby's product education strategy, Mr. Powell acts as the Canadian Ambassador for Gin – specifically on brands such as Beefeater and Plymouth, which the company represents through its affiliation with Pernod Ricard.

"We are all so proud of Ryan for being accepted into this historic society, and for continuing to set the example for excellence in product education," says Patrick O'Driscoll, Corby's President and CEO. "He was nominated for the Guild by his own colleagues here at Corby, which is a true testament to the personal passion he consistently shows about the spirit of this industry – and especially the Gin category."

Mr. Powell will be appearing this evening at THR & Co. as host and judge of the Beefeater MIXLDN National Bartender Competition, which takes place in 4 cities across Canada. This event is the largest Gin-based competition, with 30 countries participating and more than 1000 entrants. In addition, Beefeater International Ambassador Sebastian Hamilton-Mudge will be in attendance.

In celebration of Mr. Powell's achievement, he has selected two of his favourite Gin recipes to share. Please enjoy our products responsibly.
