Beta Systems’ New Agility Products Connect Data Centers with Decentralized Architectures

Business Wire
Beta Systems Software AG (FWB:BSS) announced today that its new
generation of Agility products opens up z/OS-based infrastructure
software for use by applications and staff in all areas of
corporate IT. This significantly increases IT’s cost-effectiveness
and helps companies make their business processes even more
efficient. The importance of IT in today’s businesses is growing
constantly. For this reason, companies need to be able to integrate
it quickly and flexibly into their workflows and business
processes. This delivers more value from their existing systems –
both data center solutions and decentralized architectures. To
support this, the new Agility products provide powerful Web
services that enable access to the corresponding Beta Systems
z/OS-based product. The product family includes Beta 88, 91, 92 and
93 Agility.
To underpin companies’ SOA structures, Beta Systems’ z/OS-based
solutions process data and documents in the usual secure and
scalable world of mainframe processing. At the same time, the new
products integrate data flexibly with other decentralized
applications, helping to protect existing investments. These
bidirectional Web services provided by the Agility products deliver
additional value by allowing users to search for and retrieve
mainframe-based data and documents and to transfer information to
the mainframe.
Technical information
The new Agility generation includes the interfaces and
functionality of Beta Systems’ proven z/OS products for data and
document processing, with the individual Web services added to
extend the feature set. The architecture of the corresponding base
products has, in many cases, been comprehensively optimized to
support the development of the Web services. As a result, the
Agility products provide customers with ongoing usage of the
product functionality in a traditional mainframe context, while
enabling them to use Web services at the same time. The Agility
products were developed to deliver the specific functions of the
relevant z/OS product to systems and users outside of the z/OS
environment.
IBM mainframe installed in Beta Systems’ development
labs
Beta Systems recently installed an IBM z10 mainframe in its
development laboratories to underpin development work for the z/OS
platform. The z10 uses the latest cutting-edge technologies and
supports a wide range of systems, including Linux, XML, Java,
WebSphere and SOA applications.
“The new Agility generation provides benefits to many different
types of customers, depending on their requirements,” says Niels
von der Hude, Senior Product Manager of the DCI and IdM business
lines at Beta Systems Software AG. “The Agility products can
deliver mainframe-based data directly to users via portal systems
or other Web service enabled applications. In addition, like a
machine-to-machine connection, the products also enable mainframe
data to be combined in a common solution with information from
non-mainframe applications, to undergo further processing.”
“With the new products, customers can meet their specific
requirements by defining any type of Web service that allows for
the integration of Beta Systems’ z/OS-based products,” adds Harald
Podzuweit, General Manager of the DCI and IdM business lines at
Beta Systems Software AG. “These can include integration in
enterprise-wide monitoring structures. In this way, the Agility
products’ Web service functionality allows users to search for and
immediately visualize security and compliance-related activities on
the data center’s control panel.”
