Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) today announced the introduction
of the Mailstream Wrapper™ productivity system. The new solution
combines the integrity and efficiency of high speed inserting with
an alternate envelope process to help mail operations streamline
the production of high quality customer communications. The system
can easily integrate into existing mail finishing and print
operations, providing an additional opportunity to link print and
mail.

Built on the Pitney Bowes Mailstream Productivity Series, the
new system incorporates Pitney Bowes’s expertise in high-speed
inserters, software solutions, and service with Sitma Machinery’s
innovative wrap solution. The system, which can process pre-printed
wrap material or print in-line after the completion of the
mailpiece, can help mailers achieve significant cost savings and
operational improvements with little to no application or workflow
changes. This continuous wrap replaces traditional envelopes and is
estimated to lower mailpiece costs by 20 to 40 percent through a
combination of reduced paper usage, improved warehouse management
and significantly less scrap.
“Recent advances in paper production and mail technologies are
making it easy to help save significant money for producing both
transactional and direct mail while actually improving mailpiece
effectiveness,” said Grant Miller, vice president, global strategic
product management and North American sales, Document Messaging
Technologies, Pitney Bowes. “Our new Mailstream Wrapper
productivity system capitalizes on these innovations to help
mailers and printers achieve unprecedented levels of productivity
and operational cost savings, while producing high-quality customer
communications.”
The Mailstream Wrapper productivity system includes innovations
designed to maintain the highest levels of integrity, system
uptime, and productivity while processing variable page documents
at speeds of up to 26,000 pieces per hour. The wrapping system can
be retrofitted into existing Pitney Bowes Mailstream Productivity
Series inserters, protecting mailers’ capital investment.
With intelligent software driving production runs, mailers can
personalize envelope wraps with messages and images based on
specific customer profiles and match envelope messaging with
transpromo content on the primary document within. In addition, it
allows organizations to print variable content in black-and-white
or full color on-the-fly as part of their normal print and mail
production run.
The continuous roll of wrapping material is as versatile as
standard envelopes. Wraps can be configured to produce closed-face
envelopes with scalloped flap or windowed envelopes, all with the
same look and feel as traditional options. This new generation of
wrap offers the same ease of openability as a traditional
envelope.
The Pitney Bowes Mailstream Wrapper productivity system will be
an important component for delivering more powerful, relevant
customer communications. Pitney Bowes offers a unique end-to-end
solution that can help print and mail operations migrate to an all
white paper factory. Pitney Bowes® IntelliJet™ Printing System,
Production Intelligence® output management software and high-speed
mail finishing systems with the Print+ Messenger™ Color Inkjet
module enable unprecedented levels of productivity and operational
cost savings. All these systems are backed by a single service and
support team for peak efficiency and performance. Together, these
elements result in a truly integrated solution for companies where
mail plays a strategic role in customer communications.
