Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) today announced that it has been recognized by the Ethisphere Institute as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies in 2010. Pitney Bowes earned a spot on the list by implementing ethical business practices and initiatives that benefit customers, shareholders, employees and communities. Pitney Bowes has earned this award for four consecutive years.

“Pitney Bowes is honored to be recognized once again as one of the world’s most ethical companies,” said Murray Martin, Chairman, President and CEO, Pitney Bowes Inc. “Ethical business practices are the foundation upon which Pitney Bowes was built, and are a vital part of how we operate around the world.”

Pitney Bowes incorporates ethics and compliance into its day-to-day business operations through adherence to an ethical code of conduct, which is translated into nine different languages for employees, suppliers, and other entities doing business with the company. Mandatory ethics and compliance training is issued yearly for employees, and managers are rated in their annual performance appraisals on their ethical leadership.

This is the fourth year that the Ethisphere Institute, a research think tank dedicated to the advancement and sharing of best practices in business ethics, corporate social responsibility, anti-corruption and sustainability, has published the World’s Most Ethical Rankings. The 2010 list will appear in Ethisphere Magazine's Q1 issue.

The methodology for the WME ranking includes reviewing codes of ethics, litigation and regulatory infraction histories; evaluating the investment in innovation and sustainable business practices; looking at activities designed to improve corporate citizenship; and studying nominations from senior executives, industry peers, suppliers and customers.
