Owens-Illinois Announces New Chief Information Officer TOLEDO,
Ohio, July 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Owens-Illinois, Inc.,
(NYSE:OI) today announced that Gerard (Ged) D. Doyle has been named
chief information officer effective August 1. Concurrently, Doyle
has been appointed a vice president of Owens-Illinois by the board
of directors. In this new role, Doyle will be responsible for the
Company's global IT infrastructure including applications and
systems development. He will also champion systems integration with
recently-acquired BSN Glasspack and customer integration around the
world in supporting the overall value proposition of the Company.
He will be located at the Company headquarters in Toledo, Ohio, and
will report to Steve McCracken, O-I Chairman and CEO. "The addition
of a CIO to our executive staff is part of our strategy to focus on
fundamentals and leverage our global capabilities," said McCracken.
"The position is critical to leverage and evolving to a more modern
and vibrant way of doing business." Doyle has 28 years of
experience in information technology (IT) having implemented
infrastructure and business systems in Australia, New Zealand,
Indonesia, India, China and Japan. He currently serves as CIO for
the O-I subsidiary in Australia, ACI Packaging. Before joining ACI
in 1996, he worked 11 years for a petroleum company with both
onshore and offshore manufacturing operations in various positions
including IT superintendent. Prior to that, he spent two years as
an IT consultant after serving seven years with the Australian
government in the department of defense and later as computer
manager for the Australian Taxation Office. In March 2001, Doyle
received the "ComputerWorld Information Technology &
Telecommunications Fellows Award" honoring the outstanding
achievements of IT leaders in Australia. About O-I Owens-Illinois
