PASADENA, Calif., Nov. 30, 2010 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Jacobs
Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE: JEC) announced today that MLK
Partners, a joint venture managed by Jacobs along with
Jenkins/Gales & Martinez (JGM) and Jensen+Partners, received an
award from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works to
provide construction management services for the revitalization of
the Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Medical Center in Los Angeles, Calif. The award is for two
separate projects: the Inpatient Tower renovation and the
construction of a new Multi-Service Ambulatory Care Center
Building.
The overall program is budgeted at $355
million.
The scope of work for the Inpatient Tower renovation includes
the demolition and remodeling of interior spaces in several
existing hospital buildings, and the seismic and equipment upgrade
of the campus' Central Plant. The project will also include the
construction of a new 20,000 square foot Ancillary Building,
housing a cafeteria and administrative support functions. This
portion of the project is expected to be substantially completed in
early 2013.
The scope of work for the Multi-Service Ambulatory Care Center
Building involves the construction of a new, 130,000 square foot
Ambulatory Care Center. This portion of the project is expected to
be substantially completed in mid to late 2013.
In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President
Tom McDuffie stated, "We are proud
to be part of the MLK Medical Center revitalization effort. It is a
very important initiative that will provide critical services to
the residents of South Los
Angeles."
MLK Medical Center opened its doors as a County Hospital in
1972. In August 2007, MLK Medical
Center stopped providing inpatient services. Since then, the County
has been working to develop options to reopen inpatient services at
the MLK Center and to revitalize the entire campus. In December 2009, the Los
Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a motion to
fund the design and construction of new and renovated facilities at
the Center.
Jacobs is one of the world's largest and most diverse providers
of technical, professional, and construction services.
