August 27 2015 - 2:50PM
Dow Jones News
A private trading venue and the brokerage operations of
Investment Technology Group Inc. were taken off line around 1 p.m.
because of a technical problem at the data center where it is
located, an executive said.
Jamie Selway, head of electronic brokerage at ITG, said the data
center in Weehawken, N.J., was experiencing a "catastrophic
problem" with its heating, ventilation and air conditioning system.
ITG and others in the data center opted to shut down their systems
to avoid heat-related problems, he said.
ITG's Posit trading venue, also known as a dark pool, handled
trading of nearly 100 million shares for the two-week period
beginning Aug. 3, according to data from the Financial Industry
Regulatory Authority.
