Gateway E-842R SAS/SATA Storage Area Network (SAN) Offers Performance and Reliability Starting at $6,599; Gateway E-824R and Gateway E-826R Deliver Easy-to-Use Automated Tape Backup Starting at $2,499 IRVINE, Calif., June 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Gateway, the nation's third-largest PC company, today announced three new additions to its line of enterprise storage products -- the Gateway E-842R storage area network (SAN), and the Gateway(R) E-824R DLT-V4 SuperLoader 3 and Gateway(R) E-826R LTO-3 SuperLoader 3 automated tape backups. Designed for professional customers, these new storage systems offer the capacity and flexibility critical for small-to-medium size businesses, mid-enterprise companies, educational institutions and government agencies at an affordable price. The Gateway E-842R is an entry-level SAN offering superior performance, high-capacity and enterprise-class reliability in a rack-optimized storage enclosure. The Gateway E-824R and E-826R automated tape backup systems incorporate advanced features and higher capacity at a better value. "We developed new solutions to meet the entry data storage needs of our professional customers," said Tim Diefenthaler, senior director of professional product marketing at Gateway. "We recognize that our customers require affordable storage that is easy to install and manage. The new products provide the value, increased performance and scalability our customers require." Gateway E-842R - Affordable Entry Point into Storage Networking The Gateway E-842R offers a modular SAS/SATA storage solution at an entry-level price point without sacrificing performance, reliability or flexibility. This SAN supports high-performance serial attached SCSI (SAS) and/or low-cost, high-capacity serial attached ATA (SATA II) hard drives. The 2U rackmount chassis supports up to 12 one-inch hot swap hard drives for a capacity of up to 1.75TB with SAS and 6TB using SATA II. This scalable storage option allows users to start with one storage enclosure or by daisy chaining up to a total of five units together, one can create a full data center cabinet with up to 43TB(1) of SATA II storage capacity. This gives users the ability to consolidate their storage needs into a single system and dynamically add storage as needed. For maximum performance and throughput, this system provides one or two 4Gb/2Gb Fibre Channel RAID host interface modules with full failover support. Each host interface module includes two 4Gb fibre channel ports in addition to 1GB of cache and removable Battery Backup. In addition, the E-842R supports MPIO (multi-path I/O), which allows the SAN to automatically recover from a controller failure without data loss. The system also supports RAID levels 0,1,5,6(2),10 and 50. RAID 6 offers an enhanced level of redundancy by continuing to operate with up to two concurrent disk failures. For enterprise reliability features, the Gateway E-842R includes redundant hot-swappable controller modules, power supplies, cooling fans and disk drives. The Gateway E-842R offers simple configuration and SAN management through StorView, a web or a host-based graphical management interface. For added reliability, embedded software applications will be supported, including SnapShot(3) for point-in-time data backup. Gateway E-842R key features include: * 2U rack mount chassis with rack rail kit * Support for up to 12 hot plug hard drives * Supports Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) or Serial ATA (SATA II) hard drives within the same enclosure * Supports one or two, hot-swappable host interface modules with failover support * Dual-port, 4Gb fibre channel RAID host interface modules with support for RAID levels 0,1,5,6(2),10 and 50 * SAS expansion modules that allows for up to four additional chassis to be attached to a primary RAID controller * 1MB cache and removable battery backup (per host interface module) * SAS expansion module (one or two modules) with SAS expansion cable * Hot-swappable dual 80CM fan module * Two hot-swappable 350W power supplies Gateway Breaks Price Barriers in the Entry-Level Tape Automation Segment The Gateway E-824R DLT-V4 SuperLoader 3 and the Gateway E-826R LTO-3 SuperLoader 3 offer advanced autoloader features, such as remote management and barcode readers at no additional cost. Both systems were designed for simple and reliable automated backup across multiple tape cartridges, reducing the risks of human error. Human intervention is only necessary when inserting or removing tapes outside of the autoloader, such as for off-site storage purposes. The Gateway E-824R leverages DLT-V4 technology while breaking price barriers in the entry-level tape automation segment with a starting price of $2,499. A robust technology, DLT offers reliability, capacity and performance at an exceptional value. The 2U rackmount form factor of the E-824R provides up to 2.56TB (native) capacity and 5.12TB of (compressed) data, allowing the system to accommodate backup needs as a business grows. For added data protection, the E-824R includes Quantum's DLTSage(TM), a suite of intelligent data protection tools that delivers enhanced security features to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of stored data. DLTSage includes a set of proactive management features that reduce management time and improve the reliability of the backup process. DLTSage also features WORM (Write Once, Read Many), which enables DLT-V4 drives to utilize standard media for both traditional backup and archiving, as well as for regulatory compliance. The Gateway E-826R is a 2U rackmount system that integrates the LTO-3 tape drive for up to 6.4TB (native) capacity and 12.8TB of (compressed) data, meeting demanding backup requirements. Additionally, the Gateway E-826R offers fast data transfer speeds, archiving data at 245GB per hour or 80MB/sec (native) and 490GB per hour or 160MB/sec (compressed). Both systems can be seamlessly integrated into any environment, reducing IT overhead costs. The E-824R and E-826R are available with all the features and capabilities to automatically backup and manage critical data, including compatibility with all backup software packages, a simple user interface, remote web-based management, firmware upgrades and maintenance, and system diagnostics and monitoring. Additionally, both systems offer the ability to expand from eight to 16 cartridge slots as storage needs increase, offering customers protection on their investment. For added performance and flexibility, these systems come with the option of the Yosemite Backup software v8.1. This easy-to-use software provides users with a customized interface with predefined or modified schedules and jobs, the ability to backup to any storage device, and faster performance for backup and restore operations. Additionally, the Yosemite software is scalable for entry level to enterprise level customers. Gateway E-824R and E-826R key features include: * One tape drive (E-824R is a DLT-V4 and E-826R is a LTO-3) * 2U rackmount design with standard fixed rails * Eight or 16 tape cartridges (E-824R is DLT and E-826R is Ultrium-3) * Eight cartridge capacity * Front loading import/export slot * Standard bar code reader integrated * Optional Veritas Backup Exec v10d or Yosemite Backup v8.1 software * Upgradeable from one to two 8-cartridge magazines * Web management capabilities integrated into base library electronics * 10/100 BaseT RJ45 connector for management interface * SCSI interface * 400,000 Mean Swaps Between Failures (MSBF) *
