Gateway Names Former Dell, Quanta Executive to Head Operations, Manufacturing and Customer Care

IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Gateway, Inc.
(NYSE:GTW) has named Bruce K. Riggs senior vice president,
Operations and Customer Care. Riggs replaces John Goldsberry, whose
promotion at Gateway is the subject of a separate announcement.
Riggs, 43, is a 17-year veteran of the computer industry, the
substantial portion of that spent in operations, supply chain and
logistics roles serving global markets. At Gateway, he will hold
primary responsibility for Operations, Customer Care and Quality
functions including original design manufacturing (ODM) management,
logistics, procurement and forecasting, customer service and
quality. He also will oversee the design and operation of Gateway's
new U.S. assembly plant, which was the subject of a separate
announcement today. "We are pleased to recruit an executive of

operational issues in order to meet our long-term growth needs.
Bruce brings direct operations experience having served in
executive leadership roles in Europe, the Americas and most

position." Riggs joins Gateway from Quanta Computer Inc., where he
was senior vice president, Corporate Service Operations and
Quality, with responsibility for that company's worldwide service
operations and configuration centers in the United States, Europe
and Asia. Before joining Quanta, Riggs was with Dell Inc., where he
served as the vice president, Operations and Quality, Client
Product Group, with responsibility for new product readiness,
sustaining operations and life cycle management for Dell's
notebook, desktop and workstation product lines. Before Dell, he
spent five years with Compaq Computer Corp. in a number of
operations-related positions of increasing responsibility,
including vice president, World-Wide Order Management &
Logistics. Riggs entered the technology field with NCR Corp. in
1988, rising to program director in the company's Mobile Computing
unit. Bruce earned a bachelor's degree in Economics and Spanish at
Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisc., and holds a masters degree
