The nation’s No. 1 gaming retailer to help
raise more than $100,000 to help grant wishes for children with
life-threatening medical conditions
GameStop Corporation today announced the launch of the
first-ever in-store donation program benefiting Make-A-Wish®.
During the month of May, GameStop will be providing customers an
opportunity to donate to Make-A-Wish with each in-store purchase
they make. GameStop has a goal to raise at least $100,000 in
charitable donations.
GameStop and Make-A-Wish have a long standing relationship,
where the world’s leading video game retailer and more than 40,000
of its store associates have supported more than 1,000 video gaming
and shopping spree wishes for wish kids. This year, in an effort to
increase awareness and support for Make-A-Wish, GameStop has
created an in-store donation program where all funds raised will go
directly to granting the wishes of children with life-threatening
medical conditions.
“We are honored to work with such a worthwhile charity, like
Make-A-Wish,” said Rob Lloyd, chief financial officer of GameStop
and Make-A-Wish North Texas board member. “Wish kids are such an
inspiration to me personally, and I’m excited to be able to offer
our loyal customers an opportunity to show their support for this
great organization by giving to those children in need. The money
we raise during the month of May will all go towards wish
experiences, which have the potential to medically and
psychologically change the lives of wish children forever.”
Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children diagnosed with
life-threatening medical conditions. A wish is granted somewhere in
the country, on average, every 38 minutes. Since the founding of
Make-A-Wish, more than 240,000 children in the United States have
benefited from the hope, strength and joy of having their one
heartfelt wish granted.
“Wish experiences can be game-changers for both the children and
their families, helping wish kids feel better mentally, and in some
cases, even get better physically," said David Williams, president
and chief executive officer of Make-A-Wish America. "We are
thankful for the generous support of GameStop. By bringing strength
and joy to wish kids across the country, GameStop is really taking
its ‘Power to the Players’ slogan to a whole other level.”
Customers who shop at GameStop, www.GameStop.com or Spring
Mobile beginning May 1, 2014 until May 31 will have the opportunity
to donate $1 or more to Make-A-Wish with their purchase. As part of
its in-store donation program, GameStop is committed to raising at
least $75,000 in charitable donations on behalf of Make-A-Wish.

About Make-A-Wish
Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening
medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope,
strength and joy. According to a 2011 U.S. study of wish impact,
most health professionals surveyed believe a wish-come-true can
have positive impacts on the health of children. Kids say wishes
give them renewed strength to fight their illnesses, and their
parents say these experiences help strengthen the entire family.
Based in Phoenix, Make-A-Wish is one of the world’s leading
children’s charities, serving children in every community in the
United States and its territories. With the help of generous donors
and more than 25,000 volunteers, Make-A-Wish grants a wish
somewhere in the country every 38 minutes. It has granted more than
240,000 wishes since its inception in 1980; more than 14,000 in
2013 alone. Visit Make-A-Wish at wish.org to learn more.
