DIRECTV, the world’s most popular video service, is offering the
poignant, eye-opening documentary, Waiting for “Superman,” on the
DIRECTV CINEMA™ platform, beginning today, Feb. 15, the same day as
the movie’s DVD release. To celebrate the debut, DIRECTV will
donate a portion of the proceeds from rentals of the documentary to
help schools in need through the innovative charity,
DonorsChoose.org.
Waiting for “Superman” chronicles the state of public education
through the stories of a few families, who are searching for
alternatives, and of reformers, proving that all kids can learn.
Each time Waiting for “Superman” is rented on DIRECTV CINEMA, a
donation will be made to DonorsChoose.org. Launched out of a Bronx
high school in 2000, DonorsChoose.org enables anyone to connect to
public school classrooms in a personal way by funding project
requests posted directly by teachers in need.
“Education plays such a vital role in the success of our
country’s youth, and DIRECTV strives to provide schools with the
resources they need to offer a well-rounded curriculum for K-12
students,” said Sarah Lyons, vice president of Upgrade Marketing
for DIRECTV. “DIRECTV CINEMA is proud to support the company’s
corporate citizenship efforts in our primary focus area of
education through this exciting new campaign.”
DIRECTV is committed to fostering education through two
educational programs: DIRECTV GOES TO SCHOOL® and DIRECTV4Schools™.
Through DIRECTV GOES TO SCHOOL, qualifying schools can receive a
free DIRECTV System® and educational programming to enhance their
students’ classroom experience. The DIRECTV4Schools program is an
easy way for schools to earn the funds they need for special
programs, equipment, and events that enrich student learning. For
