Dominion Energy Virginia will work with the Metropolitan
Washington Airports Authority to study developing a large-scale
solar project at Washington Dulles International Airport.
The proposed 100-megawatt solar facility would cover an area of
about 1,200 acres at the airport. Dominion Energy signed a sublease
with the Airports Authority and will begin feasibility studies for
the project.
Electricity generated by the project would flow through existing
transmission lines to power homes and businesses in the region.
"Partnering with Dominion Energy on this important project will
give us the data and tools we need to determine the role that solar
energy can play at a major international airport now and in the
future," said Mike Stewart, airport manager, Dulles International
Airport.
The new facility could be on line by 2023.
Dominion Energy Inc. (D) provides power to 7.5 million customers
in 18 states.
