Constellation Energy Sponsors Closed Captioning of Second Baltimore
Newscast National Energy Company to Sponsor Golf and Tennis Events
as Part of WJZ-TV Sponsorship BALTIMORE, June 22
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG) today
announced its sponsorship of the closed captioning of Eyewitness
News on CBS station WJZ-TV in Baltimore. Closed captions are
onscreen transcripts that make television programming accessible to
the hearing impaired. Constellation Energy also will serve as an
advertising sponsor of PGA TOUR golf events and the U.S. Open
tennis tournament, both of which will be broadcast on WJZ-TV.
"Constellation Energy is committed to supporting the services and
events that are important to the communities in which we live and
work," said Mayo A. Shattuck III, chairman, president and chief
executive officer of Constellation Energy. Constellation Energy's
year-long, co-sponsorship of closed captioning on WJZ-TV began on
May 31. The company will serve as the exclusive local advertising
sponsor of 13 PGA golf tournaments scheduled for this summer, and
the U.S. Open tennis tournament, the highest annually attended
sporting event, which begins Aug. 21 and lasts for two weeks.
"Constellation Energy's generous support helps WJZ provide an
important public service to Maryland's hearing impaired community
through the closed captioning of Eyewitness News," said Jay Newman,
vice president and general manager of WJZ-TV. Constellation
Energy's support of closed captioning and sports programming on
WJZ-TV follows several other recent Constellation Energy
sponsorships, including $1 million for the renovation of the
historic Hippodrome Theater and $500,000 as part of its title
sponsorship of the Baltimore-Annapolis stopover of the Volvo Ocean
Race. Constellation Energy also announced earlier in the year that
it will continue to serve as title sponsor of the Constellation
Energy Golf Classic, the Baltimore stop of the PGA TOUR's Champions
Tour. As a result of last year's inaugural tournament, the
Baltimore Classic Fund, the non-profit that oversaw the golfing
event, was able to donate $100,000 to each of three Maryland-based
charities - the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Kennedy Krieger
Institute and the Living Classrooms Foundation. This year's event
will be held Sept. 27-Oct. 3 at Hayfields Country Club, widely
recognized as one of the most challenging golf courses in the
United States. Constellation Energy
(http://www.constellation.com/), a Fortune 500 company based in
Baltimore, is the nation's leading competitive supplier of
electricity to large commercial and industrial customers and one of
