Constellation Energy Creates New Leadership Role to Guide Development of Next-Generation Nuclear Facilities

George Vanderheyden Appointed President of UniStar Nuclear and
Senior Vice President-Constellation Generation Group BALTIMORE,
Dec. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG)
today announced that it has named George Vanderheyden, who has
managed operations at one of the nation's best-run nuclear
facilities, to head its new nuclear program as it implements the
business model for rolling out next-generation nuclear technology.
Vanderheyden, currently site vice president of Constellation
Energy's Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant in Lusby, Md., will be
responsible for leading Constellation's efforts to develop and
deploy new nuclear facilities. Vanderheyden will report to
executive vice president of Constellation Energy, Michael J.
Wallace, who also is president and chief executive officer of
Constellation Generation Group, and serves as co-chief executive
officer of UniStar Nuclear, the company's joint venture with AREVA,
Inc. Vanderheyden also will hold the position of president of
UniStar Nuclear, reporting to Wallace and UniStar co-chief
executive officer Thomas Christopher of AREVA. "Through the UniStar
business model, Constellation Energy is committed to pursuing the
goal of developing and deploying next-generation nuclear plants,
and that will require leaders with exceptional skill, experience

operational and business expertise combined with his demonstrated
leadership skills, will serve us well as we move forward under the
UniStar business model." James Spina, currently site vice president
of Constellation's Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station in Oswego, N.Y.,
will succeed Vanderheyden at the Calvert Cliffs facility. Spina,
who earned a bachelor's degree in physics from State University of
New York-Fredonia and a Master of Science in technical management
from Johns Hopkins University, has more than 23 years' experience
in the nuclear industry, 17 of them spent at Calvert Cliffs.
Succeeding Spina at the Nine Mile Point plant will be Timothy
O'Connor, who currently serves as plant general manager at the
facility. O'Connor earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical
engineering from Marquette University, and has held several
leadership positions with other nuclear operators. Constellation
