Alltel (NYSE: AT) customers now can use their wireless phones to identify the title, album and artist of a song they hear being played with Song IDentity. Alltel is offering the service in partnership with Shazam Entertainment, a pioneer in audio recognition technology, and Rocket Mobile, a leading provider of software applications for mobile phones. "Song IDentity allows customers to use their wireless phones to record a few seconds of any song and immediately see on their phones the name of the artist, title and album," said Wade McGill, vice president of wireless product management for Alltel. "Customers also have the option of purchasing a ringtone of the song if available." Song IDentity is available from Alltel on a variety of handsets. Cost is 99-cents per song identified, or 6 songs for $5.49 or 10 songs for $8.49. Customers can visit Alltel's Axcess Shop on their wireless phones to download the service.
