Item 7.01 Regulation FD Disclosure.

On March 17, 2020, the Board of Directors of Viking Therapeutics, Inc. (the “Company”) authorized a stock repurchase program, whereby the Company may purchase up to $50 million in shares of its common stock (the “Common Stock”) and outstanding warrants to purchase Common Stock (the “Warrants”), over a period of up to two years (the “Repurchase Program”). The Repurchase Program may be carried out at the discretion of a committee of the Company’s Board of Directors through open market purchases, one or more Rule 10b5-1 trading plans, block trades and in privately negotiated transactions.

In accordance with General Instructions B.2 of Form 8-K, the information in this Item 7.01 of this Current Report on Form 8-K shall be deemed to be “furnished” and shall not be deemed filed for purposes of Section 18 of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, as amended (the Exchange Act), or otherwise subject to the liability of that section, and shall not be incorporated by reference into any registration statement or other document filed under the Securities Act of 1933, as amended, or the Exchange Act, except as shall be expressly set forth by specific reference in such filing.
