Stratos Lightwave Announces Complete Line of Fiber Optic Rotary
Joints & Subsystems CHICAGO, Nov. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Stratos Lightwave, Inc. is announcing a new line of rotary joints
for fiber optic systems. These devices are the optical equivalent
of the electrical slip ring, allowing uninterrupted transmission of
data in applications that require a full 360 degrees rotation of
the fiber. Stratos Fiber Optic Rotary Joints (FORJ) are available
in a variety of package types, wavelengths, and fiber types. They
are ideal for harsh-environment applications such as guidance
systems, robotic systems, medical equipment, telemetry systems,
remote operated vehicles, surveillance systems, and military
equipment, where a large quantity of data must be transported
across a rotating axis. Stratos is also offering design and
manufacturing services for custom subsystems using these joints.
These rotary joints support communication using singlemode,
multimode, broadband, CWDM, or DWDM technologies. Available
variations of Stratos FORJs include units for submersion in water,
for high pressure, for miniature systems, for high RPM, for
multi-fiber cables, and for broad spectral range use. All versions
are resistant to water and dust ingress and feature stainless steel
construction with ceramic ball bearings. Insertion loss is 2dB
maximum (< 1dB typical), with a return loss > 45db. Bandwidth
is 850nm - 1650nm for standard versions; down to 635nm for
broadband. Maximum optical power level is +23dBm, and the maximum
physical load on the fiber is 10N (for 900 micron fiber).
Rotational speeds of up to 100RPM (2000RPM for the high-RPM
version) are supported. While Stratos is offering these Fiber Optic
Rotary Joints as individual components, the company is also
providing complete subsystems that incorporate these FORJs. As a
primary designer and manufacturer of active and passive components
for fiber optic communication, Stratos will custom-design virtually
any optical subsystem using these joints. Stratos can deliver a
complete, ready-to-use solution. Stratos Fiber Optic Rotary Joints
are available now. Pricing for the joints themselves varies from
$1000 to $5000 each, depending on the version ordered and the
options specified. Pricing for the custom development and/or
manufacturing of subsystems using these joints, is determined on a
case-by- case basis. For additional information, contact Stratos
