SRS PC Audio Suites Enable Windows PCs to Decode 5.1 Surround Sound Content Streamed Through Silverlight
September 30 2010 - 8:00AM
Business Wire
SRS Labs (NASDAQ:SRSL), the industry leader in surround
sound, audio, and voice technologies, announced today that PCs
equipped with SRS Premium Sound HD™ or SRS Premium Sound OEM
suites, as well as SRS’ newly announced SRS HD Audio Lab™
standalone consumer-targeted software suite, now have the ability
to decode SRS 5.1™ surround sound content streamed through
Microsoft Silverlight®.
“Delivering surround through rich media platforms has been
challenging, as the traditional stereo paths result in sound that’s
flat against the screen and unimpressive to the viewers who expect
HD quality in both their video and audio content,” said Chuck
Cortright, Vice President of New Business Development for SRS Labs.
“With SRS 5.1, content providers can now utilize the same stereo
path to create natural, immersive surround content, significantly
improving the viewing experience by delivering high fidelity sound
that matches with the high definition picture.”
Depending on speaker configuration, SRS Premium Sound, Premium
Sound HD and SRS HD Audio Lab software suites are capable of
decoding SRS 5.1 surround sound content into:
- 5.1 surround sound
- Front-rendered surround sound
- Virtual headphone surround
“SRS’ PC software family of all-in-one suites are powerful
applications that enhance the collective PC multimedia experience,”
said Allen H. Gharapetian, Vice President of Marketing for SRS
Labs. “And now, users of our consumer and OEM audio suites have the
ability to enjoy an uncompromised 5.1 surround sound experience
from any content encoded in SRS 5.1.”
Available through a complete toolkit specifically designed by
SRS for Microsoft Silverlight, content developers and aggregators
now have the option to effortlessly add surround sound to their
content. To date, Silverlight has an installed base approaching
60-percent on all Internet-connected devices worldwide, with a
15-percent increase of usage in just four months. Furthering SRS’
position as a leader in audio solutions for the PC, an estimated
21-percent of PC notebooks shipping in 2010 were equipped with a
solution stemming from the SRS Premium Sound family.
For PC users that have a computer not featuring SRS Premium
Sound HD or SRS Premium Sound, a free 30-day trial of SRS’ consumer
software, HD Audio Lab (HAL), can be downloaded at
http://www.srslabs.com/HAL. The MSRP for the download and
box versions of HD Audio Lab are $29.99 and $39.99,
respectively.
To celebrate SRS 5.1’s inclusion within the Silverlight
platform, SRS Labs is launching the “Turn Your PC in to a Home
Theater PC” sweepstakes to give away 20 copies of SRS HD Audio Lab™
