WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., April 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sound
Federal Bancorp, Inc. (NASDAQ:SFFS) (the "Company"), the holding
company for Sound Federal Savings (the "Bank"), announced that its
Board of Directors declared a cash dividend of $0.075 per share to
be paid on May 12, 2006 to stockholders of record as of April 28,
2006. Sound Federal Savings is a federally chartered stock savings
bank offering traditional financial services and products through
its branches in New York in Mamaroneck, Harrison, Rye Brook,
Peekskill, Yorktown, New Rochelle, Somers, Carmel, Cortlandt and
New City and in Connecticut in Brookfield, Bethel, Greenwich and
Stamford. On February 8, 2006, the Company entered into an
Agreement and Plan of Merger pursuant to which it would be acquired
by Hudson City Bancorp, Inc. Shareholders of Sound Federal Bancorp,
Inc. will receive $20.75 in cash for each share of Sound Federal
Bancorp, Inc. common stock they own. The acquisition is subject to
the receipt of regulatory and shareholder approvals. It is expected
that the acquisition will be completed during Sound Federal
