Northwest Airlines Announces New Nonstop Service Between
Minneapolis/St. Paul and Marquette, Mich. One Daily Flight to Begin
June 9 MINNEAPOLIS, April 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Northwest
Airlines (NASDAQ:NWAC) today announced new nonstop service between
its hub at Minneapolis/St. Paul and Marquette, Mich. One daily
flight will be offered beginning June 9. "Northwest Airlines is
pleased to increase service in Michigan's beautiful Upper
Peninsula," said Tom Bach, vice president of market planning and
Airlink. "Customers traveling through our hub at Minneapolis/St.
Paul will enjoy convenient connections to cities throughout the
Midwest, West, Hawaii, Alaska and western Canada." The additional
flight will complement four daily flights Northwest currently
offers between Marquette and its hub at Detroit. Northwest
previously served Minneapolis/St. Paul from Marquette with one-stop
service via Houghton, Mich. "Sawyer International Airport and
Marquette County and local business leaders are excited about the
return of service to Minneapolis," said Keith Kaspari, manager of
Sawyer International Airport. "This flight will benefit business
and leisure travelers alike with time-saving connections to
destinations throughout the Northwest network." "As our government
and business communities begin to see the benefits of minimizing
the digital divide in rural communities, northern Michigan
continues to see improved access in technological services,
healthcare and travel," added U.S. Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich). "I
applaud Northwest Airlines for this additional route and for
understanding rural communities provide an untapped market in the
travel industry. This step will provide a benefit to both Northwest
Airlines and northern Michigan travelers." The new flight will be
operated by Northwest Airlink partner Mesaba Airlines using the
Saab 340 turboprop, which seats up to 34 passengers. Marquette
brings to 171 the number of destinations served from Northwest's
hub at Minneapolis/St. Paul. As a seasonal enhancement, Northwest
also is adding weekend service between Detroit and Rhinelander,
Wisc., and is upgrading service between Detroit and Pellston,
Mich., with additional jet flights. Northwest's new service will be
available for sale on Saturday, April 9 at http://www.nwa.com/ , by
telephone at Northwest Airlines reservations at 1-800- 225-2525 or
