Cirrus Logic Inc. (Nasdaq:CRUS) The 15 million anticipated visitors to the 2005 World Expo in Aichi, Japan, are experiencing superior audio performances at the Expo Hall thanks to the teaming of Yamaha's professional audio equipment and Cirrus Logic's CobraNet(TM) digital audio over Ethernet technology. The CobraNet digital audio system, adopted by the 2005 World Expo for implementation in the Expo Hall, will provide an extremely clear, high-quality acoustical environment for the daily Expo Hall performances celebrating a wide variety of cultures around the world. The Expo Hall is an interior hall accommodating 440 people and was designed for a conventional all-in-one mixer at the center of a cutting-edge sound system that networks the audio signals and control signals via CobraNet technology, the leading standard for delivering digital audio over Ethernet networks. "We are proud that Yamaha chose CobraNet technology to create some of the most powerful entertainment experiences, and especially honored to be participating with Yamaha at the 2005 World Exposition Aichi," said Keith Cheney, vice president and general manager, Cirrus Logic Embedded Products Division. "Yamaha's selection of CobraNet technology for its equipment at the 2005 World Exposition underscores CobraNet's position as the leading standard for delivering networked digital audio." CobraNet technology is being used between front-of-house (FOH) and the stage-wing (stage right) PM5D mixing consoles and DME64Ns Digital Mixing Engines from Yamaha. The control room PM5D handles FOH duties, while the stage wing right PM5D handles monitoring. Output processing is handled by the Yamaha DME mixing engines. The audio mixed by the control room PM5D and DME64N (which performs the PM5D's matrix extension) is transmitted digitally via CobraNet to another DME64N (stage right). The system utilizes an optical cable between the DMEs with a secondary link for fault tolerance/reliability purposes, and 24-bit, 48 kHz digital audio is being transported with a low latency of 1.33ms. The Yamaha system further utilizes an Expo Hall installed wireless LAN, allowing the DME64N's to be operated by a Tablet PC so that adjustments can be made while standing in front of the monitor speakers, allowing for real-time tuning. In addition, the PC-N series power amps (placed in the wings) can be controlled and monitored at all times from the control room using the ACU-16C amplifier control unit via CobraNet technology. With Cirrus Logic's CobraNet Silicon Series of integrated circuits, Cirrus Logic is enhancing CobraNet's position as the leading standard for distributing uncompressed digital audio over Ethernet networks. Devices that can now incorporate CobraNet technology includes power amplifiers, self-powered loudspeakers, signal processors, intercom systems, large facility audio distribution via ceiling speakers, paging stations, broadcast equipment and home automation consumer products.
