PostNL NV (PNL.AE) Wednesday welcomed a decision German postal regulator made already Tuesday, when saying that Deutsche Post AG's German unit First Mail breached the German Postal Act in terms of pricing and non-discrimination regulations.

"This is an important signal for more competition and more diversity in the German postal market," PostNL's chairman Harry Koorstra said in statement.

The decision is an important step on the path to profitability of TNT Post Germany in 2013, PostNL also said.

Deutsche Post said it is considering legal steps against the regulator's call.

Earlier this year, Deutsche Post pulled out the Dutch market when selling its PostNL competitor SelektMail to Sandd.
