Eni SpA said Thursday that its subsidiary Eni UK Ltd. has won a carbon-dioxide appraisal-and-storage license from the U.K.'s Oil and Gas Authority.

The Italian energy company said the license, which has a six-year appraisal term, will cover the area within the Liverpool Bay area of the East Irish Sea.

"Under the CS license, Eni plans to reuse and repurpose depleted hydrocarbon reservoirs of the Hamilton, Hamilton North and Lennox fields and associated infrastructure to permanently store CO2 captured in North West England and North Wales," it said.
