Technology has proven to be instrumental in reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from oil sands production, says March. Because of this, there should be a greater focus on collaboration and research. "Additional and continuous investment is needed in order to bring the best technology to bear on the challenges facing oil sands development," he says. "My hope is that our greatest contribution to the Canadian energy industry will be to inspire confidence in Canadians that this huge natural resource can be developed in an environmentally responsible and economically sound manner."
