TOANO, Va., Dec. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Hurricane Harvey,
which made landfall in August, left behind massive devastation and
impacted the lives of millions of residents of East Texas. In an effort to contribute to the
ongoing recovery taking place across the region, Lumber Liquidators
(NYSE: LL), in coordination with Texas Gov. Greg
Abbott, announced today that it has committed more than
$100,000 in cash and flooring product
to lift up one of the hardest hit communities – Aransas Pass, Texas.
The damage in this small coastal town near Corpus Christi was catastrophic. In addition
to the toll on homes and businesses, Aransas Pass schools were nearly destroyed,
leaving students displaced for nearly two months. The cost of this
destruction has exceeded the available insurance coverage.
Lumber Liquidators has focused its relief effort on the Aransas
Pass Independent School District. The company has already donated
nearly 12,000 square feet of engineered vinyl plank flooring –
valued at more than $40,000 – and is
providing more than $50,000 cash to a
special fund to furnish the library, offices and common spaces of
A.C. Blunt Middle School.
Approximately half of the cash donation was raised through the
generosity of employees and friends of Lumber Liquidators via a
special GoFundMe page. The company contributed the additional funds
in order to provide significant resources to the school's
rebuild.
Stepping Up When It's Needed Most
This initiative by
Lumber Liquidators is an extension of the company's "Lay It
Forward" program, which is dedicated to supporting organizations
that benefit future generations. It is a principle that also
inspires the enduring quality and sustainability of the company's
products.
Dennis Knowles, Chief Executive
Officer, said: "When we heard about the devastation to this
community and its schools, we wanted to do our small part to help
rebuild. We were inspired by the courage and perseverance of
the extraordinary team of educators at A.C. Blunt Middle School.
Supporting this community is true to our company's mission to 'lay
it forward' and it is an honor for our team to be able to
contribute to the recovery."
Through this effort, Lumber Liquidators – which has 30 stores
across Texas – was committed to
addressing an area of immediate need in the state and positively
impacting a community still facing serious damage. The company
reached out to Texas Governor
Greg Abbott's office for their
guidance, and together identified the schools in Aransas Pass.
"There is nothing more important than our students' educational
advancement, which is why the restoration of this school is such a
critical step to help this community heal after the hurricane,"
said Governor Abbott. "Hurricane Harvey may have left behind
unprecedented devastation, but the people of Aransas Pass and the generosity of Lumber
Liquidators show that no disaster can match the resilience of
Texans."
