State Street Corporation Chief Executive Officer Ron Logue and Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino will illuminate the Boston skyline this evening with a new sign atop State Street's headquarters at One Lincoln Street. "State Street Corporation is a Boston institution and the sign we light today reaffirms their commitment to our city," Mayor Thomas M. Menino said. "Their place on the Boston skyline is as bright and promising as their place in our business and civic community." State Street has been part of Boston's business landscape for more than two centuries. Its roots in Boston trace back to 1792 when John Hancock signed the company's charter. "In a time of continued consolidations and mergers in Boston, State Street has remained strong," said Logue. "As the city's oldest, independently owned, publicly traded financial institution, we have continued to grow and today are one of the world's leading financial services companies." Logue continued, "Boston has been a beneficiary of our global growth and being a part of the city's skyline is further proof of our long standing commitment and our pledge to remain a stable force in the city's landscape." With more than 20,000 employees worldwide and more than 9,800 in Massachusetts, State Street is one of the city's biggest employers and philanthropic contributors.
