THISTLE BOARD APPOINTMENTS
Thistle Hotels Plc has today announced the appointment
with effect from 3 November 1999 of Greg Terry and Lau
Wing Tat as Non-Executive Directors.
Mr Terry has been nominated by Brierley Investments
Limited (BIL), which has an approximate 46% shareholding
in Thistle Hotels, to succeed one of its two
representative Directors, Mr Rupert Morley, who has also
stepped down from the Board today. Lau Wing Tat has been
nominated by the Government of Singapore Investment
Corporation and Havelock Investments, each of which are
investment arms of the Government of Singapore, which
together hold an approximate 20% shareholding in Thistle
Hotels. Mr Lau succeeds representative Director, Ng Kok
Song, who has also stepped down from the Board today.
Greg Terry is Chief Executive Officer of Brierley
Investments Limited and is based in Singapore. Prior to
joining BIL, he was Vice Chairman of the Asia Pacific
Region and Managing Director of Credit Suisse First
Boston. From 1987 to 1997, he was Director and Group
General Counsel of the Jardine Matheson Group in Hong
Kong.
Mr Terry began his career as an Australian Foreign
Service Officer and has practised corporate law in
Australia, Hong Kong and the United States. Before
joining Jardine Matheson, he was Vice President of
Burlington Northern Inc., a US railroad and natural
resources conglomerate.
Mr Terry received his LLB in law from the University of
Melbourne and his MA in international relations from the
Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University.
He is Chairman of the Advisory Board of the South East
Asian Studies Program at the Fletcher School.
Lau Wing Tat is currently an Assistant Director at the
Government of Singapore Investment Corporation
responsible for managing investments across the world.
Mr Lau has a Bachelor of Engineering (1st Class Hons)
from the University of Singapore. He is also a Chartered
Financial Analyst. He is married with two children.
Mr Terry held directorships of UK listed companies Dairy
Farm International Holdings Limited, Jardine Matheson
Holdings Limited and Mandarin Oriental International
Limited until 30th April 1997. Mr Lau is, and has not
been in the last five years, a director of a UK listed
company. There is no further disclosure required under
Paragraph 6F2 for either director.
In welcoming the two new Non-Executive Directors to the
Board, David Newbigging, Chairman of Thistle Hotels,
said, "Greg Terry's and Lau Wing Tat's broad experience
of business internationally will enable them to make a
significant contribution to Thistle."
